The conference will open with an address from Elhadj As Sy, Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC). Mr Sy will explore the direction of humanitarianism in a world of unprecedented humanitarian need, and look at the how new partners, new sources of funding and new approaches align with old needs and old ways, and the principle of humanity which has been at the heart of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement since the 19th Century.
